I was wondering if there is a way to send and receive SMS messages from my computer through my iPhone. I don't mind having to use the terminal or whatnot - the important part of this is that it works!

I know there is a command line utility to send SMS messages over SSH, but I would also need a way to read them.

This would be used with a Linux netbook.

Thanks!

i used to do it with Veency installed on the iphone then u can VNC into it and type messages and read the screen (on ur laptop screen)

That would work perfectly, except that I'd need the screen to be off. When I shut off the screen the VNC session goes black.

The iPhone would be in my pocket for this.

oh ok no luck then i used to come hoe drop my phone in the dock and connect it up and then i wudnt need to go back to it till i was leaving the house

Thanks for your replies, but I don't need to do this anymore.

And this thread is from January, Mr. MMS, so we didn't even know it was coming. And that's not a solution to my problem but thanks anyway. :p

Good for you mikes,

but perhaps someone reading this thread will find it very helpful.. It's always good to save few cents when you send SMS from your mac totally free.. :)

and I'm 100% sure that Mr. MMS didn't even read the title of this thread.. :D
