Sending imessages results in having 2 seperate instances to the same person at times?

This is really annoying, but sometimes when I send a mesage to my girlfriend, it will open up another instance... for example she has iMessage activated to her phone number and also her apple id email address...

When I send her a message, no matter if I send it to her apple id or phone number, I want it to show up only in 1 window, not 2 seperate windows (one for apple id and one for phone number).

It looks very sloppy this way. Does anyone know how to fix this? This doesn't only happen with her, but also to other people who have more than 1 email and or phone number enabled with iMessage.

Change the "send from" to just your phone number

What do you mean? I'm on the receiving end... sometimes I get messages from the same person, but multiple instances... I thought iOS is smart enough to consolidate between all the different accounts/phone that is entered for a single person?

So is it because you select a different email or phone number to send them the message or they select a different one from which they reply?
