Sending iPhone in for repair, but what about Crystal Film?

So, I got my iPhone this last Thursday to find out that the motor inside it that makes it vibrate during calls is likely DOA as I couldn't get it working and neither could the AppleCare customer service rep. She is being kind enough to give me a loaner iPhone for free during the repair time, and the box is coming tommorow. But, one thing I was anal about with my iPhone was getting a Power Support Crystal Film on it immediately out of the box. Now, a couple days after doing just that, I have to send my iPhone in for that motor...Can I leave the crystal film on and trust that I'll get the same iPhone back repaired? Or you guys think they will confirm the vibrating moror is dead on this one and just send me a new iphone(thereby wasting my crystal film.

Even if i take off the crystal film, how do i make it as perfectly lint free as it was when i got it from power support so that when a new iphone comes back, I can put it back on that one without having residue or lint beneath the screen.

Honestly I doubt there is a great way. I know I have an invisible shield on my phone (not iphone) and I took it off to paint my case and they're sending me a new one. Lifetime warranty, just need to send the old one back in and pay $3 for shipping.

I sent my phone in to have the antennae replaced and left the inCase film on without even thinking about it. It was gone when I got it back. I had it on there perfectly, too.

The phone works now, though. It was permanently going to "No Service" once a week and I was having to call AT&T to get registration data "pushed" to the phone to fix it each time.

That got old, so I called Apple and they said this antennae replacement would fix it. I doubted it, but so far so good. Except for the no-film thing.

Now I gotta buy new film. Cheap, I know, but I liked the inCase one, which only comes with the $30 outer case.

do you even need those film things? This screen is VERY resilient. I've had mine in my pocket with keys since June 29, no scratches and a lady at the apple store had one..check this out. Her daughter threw it off a 6 story building, the metal was all jacked up but the screen wasn't scratched and the iPhone turned on!

I would definitely take it off...because chances are you will get a different phone when you get it back. Good Luck!

Can we please keep this thread on topic? I dont doubt the resilence of the screen, but the bottom line is that sand(or grit)>iPhone screen. Its amatter of time and id rather not risk it. Thanks.

Ok. So it seems like the general concensus so far is too remove it. But then how (and with what) do i clean the crystal film with so that itll be just as flawless and lint free as it was when i got it? Thanks guys.

Believe it or not, it can be rinsed off with water. I think it even says so on the package. Then just use a lint free cloth and put it back on. But do take it off.

Use a piece of clear (scotch) tape on a corner.. stick... and remove. yee haa!

i dropped mine onto planter box filled with gravel, landed face down and not a single mark. (however it did dent the corner where the silent button is, thus bending the hole and making the switch unable to slide anymore - apple promply replaced instore - THANKS APPLE!)

apple also states that films can cause mis-input on the screen...



kinds seems like a waste of money for something that is not needed... but good luck.

yeah, lose the film.

The phone is much sexier without it.

It's kinda like back in the 80's when people would put reynolds wrap on their remote controls...LOL.

Usually when you take off those sort of things it will stretch it and wont be able to have a good fit as you did the first time. So if you do plan on getting another one, you should check out Best Skins Ever. Their extremely cheap and have the same exact thing as InvisibleShield but costs a third of the price.

*sigh* OP has the Crystal Film. It is replaceable and washable. Doesn't stretch, etc.

You can wash the Crystal Film but I've had mixed results. The package includes 2 so I kept the washed one and replaced it with a new one. I figure I'll wash the old one again if I need it in the future.

For those that say to leave the screen naked -- I thought so too, because I liked the glass feel, but once I applied the film on properly (or almost perfectly) I was a convert. The film feels even better than the glass itself and smudges less easily. I don't have ANY worries about the screen getting scratched now.
