Sending mail on wi-fi

If I am on my own wi-fi network I have no issues sending e-mail with my Apple 'Mail' program. But if I am on another wi-fi network away from my studio, I can receive email with my Apple Mail account but not send email with the Apple Mail program. I know it's because the Mail program needs to be reconfigured to send mail. My question is, is there an easy way to set up Mail so I can send email from any wi-fi network?

Don't know if the mail port will be blocked, but I will have to find out every mail port info to send mail all the time. Is there a universal port/address that is always available to use or how do you configure Mail to be able to send out email from any wifi network?

What type of internet connection do you have at home? There's a chance that your provider might reject any outgoing mail connection if it comes from outside of their network.

I have exactly same problem. It will send no problem on the home WIFI but when I am out and use WIFI in different location it will no longer send email. Also my friend has Windows Laptop they are able to send and receive without a problem so it is not the WIFI location issue.

Not being able to send mail would be the exception as I have used likely 20 different WiFi sites and ALL have allowed me to both send and receive all the mail I want!

It doesn't have anything to do with Apple Mail. It's common for ISP's to block outgoing email from outside their network. Your best option is to use their webmail service. You can send and receive from that from anywhere.

Other option is to get your own domain and server space and set up your own email account. Most hosting services include email accounts as part of the package. The iPowerweb hosting that I own for $75/year has not only unlimited storage space, but includes 2500 email accounts on my domain. Not only does that eliminate the problem with outgoing mail from outside the home server, but it also gets around file size sending limits and all the other restrictions that your ISP puts on mail.

Hmac is correct. However, the best thing is to create a gmail account (or some other web email service like hotmail) and you can use their outgoing email server to send messages from ALL of your email accounts (including your home ISP email account and the gmail account and any others). Just make sure to include the gmail outgoing email server preferences into apple mail (or the ipad preferences). Even though your home ISP email uses the GMAIL outgoing mail server people will still see your email being sent from your ISP email address not your gmail one (unless you go into your gmail email to send the email that is). This will now allow your to send emails whether you are using your home WiFi network or one outside your home.

Good tip. I swore off those browser-based mail accounts years ago (hotmail) because of ridiculous spam levels, but haven't re-looked at them for awhile.

BTW, it's not just WIFI, it's ANY network connection outside of a direct connection to your ISP.

This may be predicated on your home ISP. Some ISPs will not require SMTP authentication from subscription users with pop3 clients on their own network. Comcast is a prime example of this. However they do not allow the send function outside of their network from a pop3 client. Instead they make you use an http interface for that.
