Sending SMS from iMac

My attempts to SMS from iMac are failing, although I have iCloud set up between my iPhone and iMac. It's becoming inconvenient because of typing and transferring images to have this limitation.
Any ideas?

Have you gone through the continuity setup on iMessages and FaceTime on the iPhone and iMac? It takes more than just signing into iCloud.

Yes, all in order. The problem now clear, is that it doesn't work to the person's phone I most need it to; others are okay. When I text them from my phone, hunky dory. From my Mac "Not Delivered".
