Sentiment for your first mac

Have any of you guys ever felt terrible thinking of the prospect of letting go your first mac?

I have been getting offered $850 dollars for my 12 inch 1.33 powerbook which I think is great. I would sell in a heartbeat if I didn't feel so attached to this computer. I just can't let it go. It's been too good to me. My mind says sell while it's still worth something, but I kind of want to keep it for a long time. I just want a 15 inch screen sometimes, but I guess when the warranty wears out I'll try to install the biggest and fastest hard drive I can find and max out the ram. Anyone else in a similar boat?

yet another reason why i love my thinkpad, hell why i loved every thinkpad i've ever owned. waiting on the tablet version of the x60s and i'll have to get rid of my x40, sigh.

My father's old Macintosh LC is still sometimes used by my grandfather . There are hardly any problems with it, it still works like a new. I doubt it's ever going to be sold, you really wouldn't get that much money out of it, anyways.

MY first mac, the MacBook , might get sold at some point. Not in the near future, though.

My first mac was my 17" powerbook G4.

i traded it about a month ago for a 15" PB, and i must admit, i was a bit teary-eyed to see it go.

but it is j ust a tool, and that is why i traded it

Well this is the first computer I've had that never gave me problems. I used to have an old HP early pentium 4 computer and there were points where I would punch the keyboard in anger (Hulk smash). Then I had a very nice windows media center pc that didn't give me any problems, but it wasn't portable and would only get used occasionally. I had no problem selling it. Then I got this little mac and the only problem is how addicted I am to using it. I use it when I watch tv and I take it with me around campus. It's amazing. I really would feel bad selling it as its been great to me

I'm not letting go of my Mac IIsi. There's no point...at this point. But I'm never going to sell any of my Mac's, anyway. To me, they're not just tools. They're something that I have an attachment to....like any personal possession that we value or that means something to us. To me, Macs are are a part of who I am.

That and I've been looking at lowendmac.com recently and I kind of want to see how long I can live on this powerbook. Maybe 3 more years? That'd be amazing and I'd save money!

i had a little sentiment for my PB (the first mac I'd purchased myself) and was a bit sad letting it go, but ultimately, they ARE just tools to me - and, since i like to have the best tools i can afford, whenever i can trade and upgrade my computers, i'm all for it.

I'm trying to put that idea in my head.....they're just tools they're just tools they're just tools. I was offered $850 for my powerbook and I can probably sell my monitor for $350. That's $1200. Then I have set apart $275 for electronic purposes out of my savings and that's $1475. I do not want a macbook, I want to go pro . My dilemma is if I should sell now and use someone elses computer till September (I'm actually being lent a macbook pro for a couple of weeks of testing, but then I have to return it) and I have a bit more cash.

My second option is keep my computer and screen, save money steadily and sell the laptop and screen for a lot less. God what do I get myself into?

I've felt that way about a lot of computers I've bought. Yeah, that *is* an excellent price. I have a mix of feelings that are practical (I have two power supplies that wouldn't be compatible, kb covers that wouldn't be compatible, etc) and emotional (this was my first mac!) feelings about selling my iBook and getting a MacBook....

I had some extra money in June (I'm horrid with a budget, and as a teacher I get this "balloon check" at the end of June -- ack!), and I bought a "new" blueberry iBook. I guess I actually bought it as a hobby computer (a computer I could putz around with, etc.), but sentiment played a definite role in my purchase.

In short, I sold mine, and I bought the same thing back from someone else. Are you sure you wouldn't do the same, ricgnzlzcr?

I got quite attached to the first Mac I bought – an old G3 iMac. It wasn't the fastest computer around, or the flashest, but it was mine and I loved it.

When I got my Power Mac, I made sure that the little iMac went to a good home.

Had my first Mac been a recent purchase, I don't think I'd have any significant qualms about letting it go if I needed the cash to supplement a repalcement, or had no use at all for the old one (I tend to keep old machines if I can still get some use out of them).

Thankfully, however, my first mac was an LC (first one), which is worth about... hmm... at $0.25 per pound to recycle electronics, maybe negative three dollars. So the only impetus for getting rid of it is space, and since it's in my parent's storage unit, no problems there, either.

I did sell the first Mac that was completely mine (as opposed to a family computer, even if I paid for it), an early G4 dual, but that was sold to my Dad so it doesn't quite count.

I didn't care when my Performa 630 went. I didn't have much attachment to it I suppose. I just gave it away to a friend after buying my first brand new Mac, an iMacDV (lime green, yum!). I held onto that for six years, adding RAM, updating the OS, swapping out the hard disk. I even considered one of those G4 upgrades and a Combo drive for it before pulling myself together and selling it on eBay. The buyer bought it as his kid's first Mac though, which was a nice home for it to go to.

I'm still very attached to my very first mac (Powermac G4 Sawtooth). But, I've had a Powerbook G3, Powerbook G4 and an iBook G4 since then and they weren't hard to part with. I think I'm still attached to the Powermac because it was my first switcher computer.

My first Mac (and only other one) was an iMac G3. Bought it a few months ago and I had it running alongside a dual P4 Dell PC, so there's not much comparison. Still loved it though! It's currently on permenant loan to a mate (who is elsewhere on this forum!)...
