Lance Macvickers did it, so I am going to try.
This post has two important objectives:
OBJECTIVE 1: I need to find out whether special steps necessary for dealing with the Catalina patch I have been running in order to have a chance of success with a personal goal I just set.
OBJECTIVE 2: Pay tribute to the many people whom I never have met but have received immensely valuable gifts in the form of the information and encouragement each has given to me over a period of years.
When you get old enough that life's maps shows its end may not be visible through the windshield at this moment, the time to get there is less than the time you have been using the internet by a lot, ... well, I cannot say how you might be affected but it makes me want to mention a few things while I can.
I just want to tell you my gratitude for your help over the years is way more than anything I can describe.
PERSONAL GOAL
My GOAL relevant to this thread is to get MacOS Sequoia running on my 2012 MacPro 5,1. A tremendous guide has done it and he seems to be explaining in videos how he did it. The guide is Lance Mavicker, of Mac Sound Solutions, who makes a lot of videos on youtube.
The special step he probably explains somewhere I have not found is how to deal the the current state of my 201s cMP 5,1, which is running Catalina thanks to the tremendous contributions to many, including personal responses to me, for which I am not worthy. These contributions came from one of my life heros, Mr. The GREAT Dosdude, whose patcher and videos showed me a path to putting Catalina only my 2012 cMP 5,1 years ago, and has been running my treasured cMP, with essentially no incident whatsoever, except a growing body of systems that Catalina does not support but which I need. He even sent personal responses to many of my questions back in the day when I first used on of his patches, BC (before Catalina).
I am on starting to give Open Core a try. I need to find the answer to a question before I will know how to take first steps on that path. The question: Are special steps necessary for dealing with the Catalina patch I have been running.
QUESTION: Will I hit a dead end if I install open core on top of Catalina with Mr. Dosdude's Catalina patch? If yes.Do I need to start from a different version of MacOS before proceeding with open core and Sequoia?
TRIBUTE
I want to pay tribute to:
1. This thread is where the term OpenCore first penetrated the stone skull encasing my alleged brain.
2. Lance Macvicker
3. THE GREAT MR. DOSDUDE and his macOS patches.
4. OpenCore Legacy Patcher and Dortania. I have not yet been able to determine whether Dortania is a person or an organization.
