Hey,

Does anyone know when does the serial number change after a replacement iPhone is issued?

What I mean is that when you look up a serial of a phone that was replaced by Apple, it says so in red error text.

Does it occur internally when they replace the device (with turnaround time, not on spot of course) or when you receive the replacement device and activate it?

I just had my phone replaced by Apple via the Express Replacement Service via AppleCare+. When the new device was shipped, I received an email verifying the serial number and IMEI of my original phone, along with the new device serial number and IMEI. When I returned my defective phone, I got an email notification that it was received and the case was closed.

It took about 2 weeks before my new device showed up under my original AppleCare+ contract (checking via the apple website or the Apple Support app on my iPhone) but it now shows up with the serial number of my new device and the original end date before I had them swap the phone.

This all happened automatically and I didn't have to do a thing.

You mean it took two weeks after the whole process was done to show up as a device on the support page?

It showed up on my devices page on my iOS devices (settings/my name) because I was signed in to iCloud. It took 2 weeks for the new device to synch to my applecare that I had on the original device . During that 2 week period, it was giving me the option to purchase applecare on the new device...when I tried to purchase, it said that the device wasn't eligible. You probably need to give it a few days to update.
