Serial number does not match product?

I'm about to buy a second hand Apple Cinema Display 23", and I asked the seller to give me the serial number so I could check whether it's a 2004 or 2006 model (since the latter has twice the contrast ratio). However when I checked the Apple Coverage website the display's serial number belongs to an iPod?

Is the display counterfeit, or could there have been a mix-up with the serials? Does this happen often?

https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/ works correctly for your serial number, but doesn't say whether it's a 2004 or 2006 model.

I checked your serial on the Apple site, and it says 'OBS CINEMA DISPLAY (23-INCH DVI EARLY 2007)'.

Edit: well this is funny. I checked on the dutch site first (https://checkcoverage.apple.com/nl/nl/) and it gives above result. When I check on the US english site (https://checkcoverage.apple.com/us/en/) it gives the same result you had (iPod touch (4th generation)). Definitely something going wrong there at Apple.

I popped that serial into Apple's service management system (I have access as an ACMT for an AASP), it returns as obsolete but as an early 2007 Apple Cinema Display
