A very hot place
I'm selling my macbook pro on ebay and a bidder asked if they could know the serial number. This may be a stupid question, but seeing as the number is unique to each system, would it be safe to tell the bidder the number? Like could they register the system in their name or something of the like? Thanks.

I believe that the 5 characters are safe to send but the rest would be machine specific.

i think you'll get different opinions on this. i'm sure the buyer just wants to look up when the system was purchased and see if there's still applecare left on it. in my experience, i've never had problems sharing my serial number. what's the big deal if i've already registered the computer and have proof of purchase? have i just gotten lucky? i don't know. would i hesitate to give the serial number to a potential buyer? not at all.
