Woah... coming from a Treo 750w that could sit in the cradle all day... when I place the iPhone in its charging base I get HUGE amounts of electronic noise emission from the device over my speakers... you know the kind where the phone causes speakers to crackle before you get a text message or phone call... ouch, is there a way to prevent this short of moving the phone off my desk (away from the speakers)?

I have the same problem with speaker noise and my iPod as well. In fact, the iPhone manages to screw up my video iPod by practically possessing the volume controls. If I have the two of them close together while listening to the iPod, the controls go crazy every now and again (volume shifts quickly, cracks, makes other noises).
Turned off the iPhone completely and the iPod works normally. Can anyone else confirm or try this?
Note: this is intermittent, either listen to your iPod for more than five minutes or do something on your iPhone that requires GSM signal service.

GSM phones in general have been messing with iPods for awhile now:

The OP is not referring to the audio quality. He is talking about the GSM Radio Buzz. Chill!
I also have noticed more buzzing with the iPhone, when compared to my Treo 680, and Blackberry Pearl.
I was hoping to purchase a car mount to display the iPhone next to my receiver. However, just not possible. I purchased a rather nice, after market stereo for my car, but I can't bring the iPhone in a 2-3 foot radius. The static is unbearable. I'm somewhat used to it when I'm actually receiving a call or passing too near an antenna with my old razr, but with the iPhone, it's a constant.
I don't blame my iPhone for this. I have a feeling I should be more pissed with Circuit City using crappy material for the installation. Not sure.

could be the location of the antenna in the iPhone or could be when the iPhone recessives a call it does a larger power out put the signal which again to lead to a something dealing the the antenna.
Took me a little while to get used to that buzz GSM makes on my speakers. I will say it is a nice way to know when I have a call coming in.
I agree that it may having something to do with the antenna placement, and output.
I've been with AT&T for years, and each phones produces a bit more radio buzz than the others. The iPhone is clearly the winner right now.
