iPhone Seriously, Am i just not getting it ???

Ok,

Firstly, Hi. I am very new to the JB world, and i have tried to do my best but i am failing.

I have an iphone 4G running 6.0.1
I want to JB untethered with 5.1.1

I have downloaded, redsnow, absinthe 2.0, snowbreeze and tiny umbrella.

I am using www.insanelyios.com to get the firmware i need. I have wathched thier videos and read thier tuitions as well.
I have also watched similar vids on youtube over and over, and i am copying thier every move.
i have downloaded the firmware iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore which comes as a zip file. I have extracted and done what it says but i CANNOT find any ipsw file.
I have also renamed the unzipped iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore folder to .ipsw ( read that this would fix it from another site). Still not working.

When i try to restore through itunes using the shift key (allowing me to choose file) i still dont see the ipsw. I have even tried just clicking restore, and hoping itunes would magically find the correct ipsw file on its own. It doesn't.

So, before i actually 'Break my phone'. Can someone please help me. I know there are 10000's of threads out there on this, I have read most of them twice and I just dont seem to get it.

Don't bother with the whole process. Apple doesn't sign the iOS 5.1.1 firmware any longer, meaning that it is impossible to downgrade to 5.1.1 from your current version, 6.0.1.

Unless you've previously jailbroken your device on 5.1.1, and save the SHSH Blobs, then you can downgrade.
 
you can but it will be a tethered jailbreak for now

a new jailbreak untethered is almost ready.

download redsn0w 09.15b3 from here:

hook up phone to USB
start redsn0w

go to Extras/Select IPSW
select the 6.0 IPSW (redsn0w is not yet fully compatible with 6.01 hence the 6.0 step)

now go back to main menu and hit Jailbreak
follow instrcutions

to get the phone in DFU:
hold Home and Power until phone turns off, keekp holding both for 3 more seconds, than release Power while keep holding Home for another 10 seconds, screen will be black not showing anything, itunes will say it found a iphone in recovery (which it is not, it is in DFU)

If you miss out on the timing and have to try again, make sure you do the 6.0 step again before retrying.

I am assuming i am to unzip the folder, so i did.

I started red snow, went to extras to select the ipsw.

And again, fail. there is no ipsw file in the download, or i am really really dumb.

You dont unzip

You need to have the option hide known extension in folder view options unchecked

Rename ZIP to IPSW

Keep in mind, the method TriJetHero is telling you is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you will need to plug your iPhone into your computer in order to be capable of turning it on, every time you turn it off and/or it runs out of battery.
 
If you can't figure out how to rename the file (lol), try using a different browser. Chances are, the one you're using does not recognize the IPSW filetype and is instead giving you a ZIP.

But if you can't figure out how to change a file extension, you may want to consider avoiding jailbreaking, it might not be the best thing for your device.
