What took Apple so long? Outtage issues aside with RIM, I had been able to upgrade my Blackberry without the need to hook it up to my computer for ages now. I'm also surprised that all my apps had to be reinstalled unless I backed them up. Now that we can upgrade OTA, I assume that reinstallation isn't going to be an issue anymore?

Nope you won't. Point releases will now be delta OTA which means you don't need to download the entire OS anymore just to patch bugs too.

Feel free to design an alternative OS. Based on your complaints, I'm sure you know how it all works.

So they finally implement it now and you are still complaining? What does it take to make you happy? Do you need a direct line to a software engineer at Apple so they can implement all the things you want immediately? I don't understand some people.

If Apple's OTA is done right then Im ok with them taking until now to implement it. On my Android device, Gingerbread was launched for my phone in July and I didnt get it until Aug 31.

Why are you complaining when the feature is here. Apple doesn't want to half-ass do something. If they do it they want it to be done right and in such a way that a complete n00b would be able to do it.
