Alright so I've tried the registry changes, and Local Service Policy you need to make to allow vpn access from Windows 7 however I haven't had any luck getting access.

Honestly at this point I don't care if I use the built in VPN server or something else, I just need to have a volunteers windows 7 home premium computer be able to login from home and can enter data into a program stored on a share point.

Perhaps a windows VPN client that is separate from the built in one?

I'll use whatever I can to get things working!

Now it isn't even working from my mac, I see the connection attempt in the logs, and I get an "Authentication Failed" message now, however all the information matches, I'm using the short username for the account, even made a new test account, shortened the shared secret to something simple. Used to work fine now after the most recent update everything's broken...

Works fine for me on my Mac. Perhaps checking out Todd Olthoff's video on YouTube. Not sure about Windows but Todd's VPN video/tutorial helped me out. When I had upgraded to 3.1.1 it was broken for me but following Todd's step from scratch helped. Also sometimes it will fail but if you keep trying to connect after the first try it should eventually authenticate and connect. It only takes me between 1-2 tries to connect via VPN from my iPhone & 1 time for all my Mac devices http://youtu.be/y7AffVSHarg

Awesome thanks, I'll give that a watch and see if hopefully that at least gets it working again! Hard to troubleshoot getting it working on windows if it isn't even working on mac!

I've got it setup real basic now because I got tired to typing long logins. I've been testing this right now locally to the local address.

Oh I don't know then. When I had followed the video I got it working with server name as my public address of my ISP, short name of the username of my login to my Mac and password as well and also with the shared key I created. I also made sure my DNS of the VPN was my server IP address cause when I upgraded to 3.1.1 it was set to the router IP and I couldn't login in since I had my server IP as a DNS in my router with and alternative as a secondary and primary and secondary of Google DNS as a DNS forward lookup on my server. Anyone else on here care to help him out would really appreciate it.

Thanks, I did just check to make sure my DNS of the VPN was still showing the servers IP.

It seems to be connecting but not authenticating.

What VPN Type are you using and did you make sure your Shared Secret is the same as you set in the VPN section of OS X Server?

Using L2TP. Yes the Shared Secret matches, made it short and easy so in this testing stage it can't be mistyped.

I use a long Shared Secret but anyways it should at least authenticate and connect. Hmmm... Have you also posted on Apple Support Communities Forum cause i'm not sure what may be the cause but maybe someone on here or on Apple Support Communities Forum will help.

Nope never did, I'm assuming Apple broke something with the latest update so I've given up and purchased a hardware vpn router which will be installed this week.

Well that sucks. Hopefully everything works with your newly purchased hardware VPN router.

Thanks! I hope it does too! I've actually picked up two to hopefully guarantee something working! I really needed to get a good firewall anyway so this was a way to kill two birds with one stone! Thanks for at least attempting to help!
