I have an unlocked and jailbroken 3GS. Today for some reason I can no longer hear sound from the earpiece. I can hear it via the external speaker and the earphones. I want to make an appointment with the Apple store, but I'm not sure how to do it since I'm no longer an ATT customer and I don't have an active ATT sim. I can't very well call and say I use it on TMO since I hear they won't help me. If I tell them I have no service they will wonder how I'd know the earpiece no longer works.

I just wonder what my options are for getting help or if any of you have had this same problem and know of a fix?

I'm terribly upset by this... and dread the Apple store at this time of year anyway!

Thanks in advance!

*Edit: I was able to fix my current problem by blowing into the ear speaker. I don't know how long the fix will work but at least it's working right now. I'm still interested in any advice you might have for me having to service my phone in the future. What steps should I take to do so without Apple saying "nope" because I'm not active on ATT?

Just restore your iPhone to a factory firmware and set up as new before taking in for any service.

Will they ask me for an ATT # or if I'm a subscriber? I can't remember what they did when I took it in and was actually with ATT.

well

the only thing you can do there is try to bluff your way though it. or hope they don't check the sim. in truth your supposed to be with AT&T the genus has the call on he wants to handle it. not sure if anybody had any luck borrowing a sims. this is only problem changing company's during the warrenty period. In truth you should be able to change network if you like. g/l :D
