Hello,

I recently had someone on Upwork create a macOS app for me. Now, I have no reason to believe that they created a macOS app with malware included... I would like to trust... buit, I would especially like to verify.

I haven't run the app yet, as Gatekeeper prevented it from opening (though, I do know how to open it if needed), and I am interested in how I might get a service or software to take a look at the app package before I run it.

Is there a service or software that could open the app package up and verify that it's free of malware?

Thank you in advance!

It's not foolproof sice VirusTotal is looking for known malware signatures. Which wouldn't be the same as someone adding a backdoor to a one-off application.
Definitely worth considering. To detect that, one would need to run a network filter like Little Snitch.
