Set of issues: Can't open files and videos freeze

I'm having one major issue (and a minor issue). I can't use the file dialog box in any application. If I need to upload a file, I can drag and drop to upload it without issue. However, if I try to access the file system, whichever program I'm using freezes and has to be restarted. This happens with Pages, Keynote, Safari, etc.

The minor issue is that videos I play in Safari are constantly freezing (video only; sound is fine).

I've got a Mid 2014 retina MBP running Big Sur (11.2.3). Is this a set of issues that someone else has run into before? Or is this likely just a sign that I need to start saving for a new laptop?

Have you tried installing anything higher OS wise? It seems like a bug.

I haven't but that's because I thought I had maxed out the OS upgrades available on my mac. I checked and it looks like there is an incremental update available, so I'll try that and let you know what happens.

You may need to do a reinstall of Big Sur. That could potentially take care of the issues that you're seeing.
