I would like for my WiFi to turn on when I walk into my apartment/work, and turn off when I leave those places. What jailbreak app would allow me to do this? Activator seems to be able to activate switches based on time but not location..

I used to use SBProfiles for this. That tweak was the cats meow for this type of tweaking. Unfortunately, you must keep wifi on at all times otherwise it's either not as effective or completely inoperable (per the cydia description). I haven't gotten around to using it on iOS 7 so maybe it still works and this is just a disclaimer saying that it's not perfect. Nowadays I just use Activator to enable and disable LTE when connected to wifi. I manually enable and disable wifi via the control center.

Either way, it's hard to imagine a tweak that can tell your location with wifi off. With wifi off, gps can't pinpoint your location. Either way, SBProfiles still might work for you. It's worth checking out.

GPS on modern iPhones does a fine job of pinpointing location (it most certainly doesn't rely on GPS like in the old days, I wish people would get it out of their mind that GPS is driven by Wifi, it's simply untrue now).

BUT with that said, GPS uses a LOT of battery.... so to suggest an app that's going to be constantly monitoring GPS position, that would suck through your battery in a matter of 3-4 hours.... similar to turning on Google Maps and letting it just follow you all day. It's not practical.

The only real geofencing that would be practical would be the suggested "If I'm on home Wifi, enable XXXX" kinda thing.

iPhone 5, wifi turned on, it finds my location within a meter in a second or two in the forest where there are no wifi networks. With wifi turned off, I have never been able to make the iPhone find my exact location. I've even made a point in standing still for over five minutes on an open field trying to get it to locate me properly instead of giving a radius of well over a hundred meters.

I don't know why, but that's how it is. Maybe the iPhone 5 isn't modern?

No that's correct. And that's what I meant. Yea GPS alone can work but with wifi turned on, it can pinpoint your exact location. Without wifi it's not as accurate. That's all I was trying to say.

Having said that, it's still worth checking out SBProfiles to see if it works without having wifi turned on all the time.

When I gamble with my lucky hat on, I win more too... rolling eyes...

So where do you think it's getting a WiFi signal in the forest? The trees must seep Wifi from the branches.

Bottom line is it's a psychological effect you're experiencing. Turning wifi on or off when there's no wifi network present will have no impact on the position. But hey, if you think wearing the lucky hat works, nothing wrong with wearing it. It can't hurt.

Not true. The Reminders app can set reminders based on geofencing (i.e., presenting a reminder when you enter/leave a location), and it does this without draining the battery. There must be some way for jailbreak developers to tap into this.

Not without GPS or wifi. Clearly you don't understand how the phone finds location. It's either wifi or gps.

Clearly you've never used geofencing in the reminders app, if you insist on arguing about this. It can pinpoint location without WiFi, using what I presume is some kind of low-power GPS reception (hence the outline of the location services icon in the status bar). This is the kind of functionality I'm after.

I'll check out SBProfiles; thanks for the tip Bumpy!

I think it can still triangulate your location with cellular towers on an iPhone

I never actually get that hollowed out location services. Only the solid one

AKA using triangulation from cell towers, not real gps, jeez. Read up on it!

But to say that it sucks through the battery in 3-4 hours is inaccurate. My wife and I both use Twist on our phones along with reminders using geofencing and both of our phones have no problem going through the day on a charge.
