have had absolutely no luck getting comcast email set up on my Mac. email works fine using PC and xfinity web site.

When I had Comcast, mail worked fine on the Mac.

I have used Comcast/Xfinity for more than 25 years on my Mac.
It might help if you would tell us what is happening when you try to use your comcast mail on your Mac (assuming that you have followed the steps at the comcast web site for using the various settings on your Mac...)

To help the OP, I tried to add my unused Comcast email account to Mail. I kept getting an authentication error.
So…currently…now…in the present moment…you have to log into your Comcast webmail, click the gearwheel in the upper right for settings, select "Security" and check the box for "Allow Access to my Xfinity Connect email through third-party programs".
Had to search the Xfinity forums for that particular tidbit.
