Hello,

What setups do you guys use? Camera? Lenses? Flashes? etc? And most importantly, why do you like it?

Wherever I hang my hat...
I shoot 95% of my landscape pix with a Nikon 200 and 18-70 (kit) lens. I also try to use a tripod most of the time; it makes me slow down and look harder. I keep everything very simple... so there isn't much photographic gear between me and what's 'out there'...

Hello,

If you ar trying to figure out what to get, I'd not just go out and buy what everyone else uses unless your needs are a close match. If you need something to keep in your pocket you don't need to hear about my DSLR.

I have an older Canon P&S I keep in a housing to use under water with an Sea&Sea YS90 strobe.

I also have a collection of Nikon SLRs and lenses gong back to the F2. My latest one is the D50.

I sold my Mamiya RB67 medium format system. Not decided what to replace it with yet. Either Haselblad or a large format system. Leaning to LF.

In my imagination
I use what the company gives me, that's why I like it.

Seriously though it's a D2xs or D200 17-35 for starters. Everything else depends on what I am shooting, who I am shooting it for, and what the client is going to use the images for. Occasionally I will grab the D80, which has better JPEG IQ than any other body I have.

I use a Canon 400D + 100mm macro + Ring Lite. I love my setup because of the images it produces compared to my previous setup. The flexibility is far greater, as well.

Sinar F2 4x5 View Camera with one of my lenses: 55mm, 70mm, 90mm, 150mm, 210mm, or 300mm.

As for flash, my Profoto studio lights synced with Pocket Wizards.

What I use for capturing the image is a Leaf Valeo Digital Back.

Why I like this setup vs. a point and shoot? I don't know, I just really like using a 4x5. I have a Fuji S5 and a D3 but I just really like using the 4x5 the most.

Sports:

D300 (w/ grip, AA batteries)
70-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor
Monopod (Manfrotto) w/ "bottom-mounted" SB-800 (w/ ttl cord to d300)

backup/post-game D70 + 28-70mm

On-location Portraits/Photojournalism:

D300 (w/ grip)
28-70 or 70-200
SB-800, either on bracket or off-camera (on a tripod)

Having become accustomed to the D70, I love the D300 because I get some slack as far as cropping. Not to mention the high-ISO performance is much, much better.

May I ask why you're asking?

May I ask why you're asking?

I'm asking because when I look in the "photo of the day" thread, I see amazing pictures, but no exif data or anything. Sometimes people do post their cameras, or its in their signature, but not often.

I'm not asking this to buy a DSLR.

Got many "set-ups" but my main combo at the moment consists of thus.

Olympus OM-4 + 55mm f/1.2 + Nice film pushed to 800 - 1600 depending on the light.

Rolleiflex T + Film again pushed since 120 looks great.

I use a Nikon D40. Most of the time with a Sigma 30/1.4 mounted.
Then there's the 50/1.8, 135/2.8 and 18-55/3.5-5.6 in order of who get's the most use.

I love this setup for it's small size, so I can always take the camera with me. The IQ is sufficient for my needs.
