Setting desktop background?

I ran into an issue; when I see a pic online that I think would look like a cool background, I click and select set desktop background. Then it says "saving" and stays like that forever never putting the new background in place. This never happened before in Mavericks. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known bug or is there a workaround?

Download that picture to desktop first, and then set it as a wallpaper. Would this work for you?

Hi Shirasaki, yeah I can do that no problem at all. Was wondering though why I cannot do it the other way anymore.
