HI, I have a 2018 mac mini on Big Sur. Appearance is set to "auto" to switch between light and dark modes. Currently dark mode engages at 8:45pm and switches back to light mode at 9:45am. I have searched high and low but cannot find where to change these times.

I am also using a Dell 3818DW monitor that does not support night shift.

Anyone know how to set the auto dark/light times?

In System Preferences, select Displays, then Night Shift. Schedule has a drop-down choice 'Custom' that allows you to select start and stop times.
I think you are mistaken. The OP was asking to set a schedule for the light and dark modes/themes NOT for Night Shift…

Thanks for the replies everyone. Unfortunately, I do not have the "Night Shift" tab in "Displays". Probably because my monitor doesn't support that.

I ended up creating an automator script and using keyboard shortcuts to map the ability to toggle light/dark. Might look at adding it to calendar at some point.

The Appearance options in Preferences, in Big Sur, specifically say that the 'Auto' setting for light and dark mode is based upon the Night Shift settings (hover over the 'Auto' icon in that control panel and you will see that explanation).

Nevertheless, I was not aware that third party monitors were not compatible with Night Shift. There do seem to be some work-arounds, for example:
