I'm just setting up a new Mac Studio and apple photos has synced the photos but it isn't downloading. its been stuck on the first file all day.

Anyone else having the issue today or had it?

I was also trying to fix an old 2015 MacBook Pro with a fresh install and it keeps saying recover server could be contacted.. I've tried the date change fix and that didn't help.. I'm just wondering if the photos issue and reinstall issue are related?

if that dopes not work, try checking the security options as a toggle might be set that could block data
also perhaps try importing several small files a s test.

also what are we moving the data from?
that can be a slower process as moving 136GB of files from a spinning drive
took 3 hours on a MacBook Pro 2012
even with a USB 3.2 chord.

if this does not work, then call, contact :apple:

ha I know your my only hope! I'm just downloading from the cloud. The adobe Lightroom downloaded fine from the cloud but its just apple photos which isn't downloading.

I just started clicking on some of the Apple photos that have synced and it then downloads them to my Mac but only when I click on them instead of just downloading automatically like it normally should. I don't fancy clicking on 20k plus photos and videos.

its very bizarre! Maybe its a sign to cancel iCloud storage and go old school and just keep them local!

Great write up of how iCloud drive now works in Sonoma -

along with another for how to troubleshoot iCloud drive -

Note the tools section in the above post.

FYI just stumbled on this post and appears to be a Sonoma bug!
