Hi,

I've just bought a 2nd hand original iphone and am just wondering what I have to do.

I'll be using an O2 Pay as you Go Sim in it. I've found various things I have to do:

Sync to itunes and activate iphone
Change Data settings to pay as you go

I'd also like to reset the iphone to it's factory settings so it's a fresh start, with the previous users information removed. Would it be best to do this first or do the above and then format it.

Also is there anything else I have missed off?

Thanks.

I am not sure what is "best," but when I sold my first generation iPhone, I first went to Settings > General > Reset and selected the option to "Erase All Contents and Settings." After that was done (about an hour), I then restored it in iTunes as a new phone. Removed the SIM and sent it off to the new owner.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. What if there is no original sim included? Will I be able to put my O2 Sim in, activate it in itunes and then restore the iphone. Or when I go to setup the new sim in itunes will it ask me if I want to do a restore then?

Thanks

Well, assuming it is a UK phone that you bought, your O2 SIM will work fine. The phone may be already activated in its present state, in which case it will just work with nothing further needed.

When you plug it into iTunes, that will tell you whether the firmware is already up-to-date.

Having said all that, you might want to restore it to factory settings and reactivate it, just to make sure you're starting from a totally clean phone.
