Setting Up Email on Lion Server

Hi,
I want to setup an email server on my mac with lion server. I have a domain with godaddy. I forwarded ports 25, 110, and 143 to the IP of the server. My ISP provides me with a static IP. Also, using godaddy's DNS i forwarded the domain to my static IP so my website works perfectly.

I just have no clue how to setup the email part...
If anyone could provide me with some help.

PS: I know I have to something with MX records but i dont know exactly what.
I'm a bit of a noob so try to be as simple in your wording as possible

The MX Record is important to the internet as it specifies the name and relative preference of mail servers for the zone. MX is a DNS record used to define the host(s) willing to accept mail for a given domain. I.e. an MX record indicates which computer is responsible for handling the mail for a particular domain.

Without proper MX Records for your domain, only internal e-mail will be delivered to your users. External e-mail from other mail servers in the world will not be able to reach your server simply because these foreign servers cannot tell to which server they need to "talk" (or open a connection to) in order to send the mail destined for that domain.

where the "dns wizard" asks you to pust in your MX records on godaddys side put in the static ip of your server.

First remove the ones they put on then hit quick add then priority=0 host=@ points to=184.184.999.999 or w/e

CORRECTION!!!! make a sub domain called email.mydomain.com and point that to your server, then point "points to" to email.mydomain.com

Okay, I did everything you said.
1. created subdomain: email.domain.com pointing to my IP

its doesn't work still.
even using the webmail app that lion server has I sent an email from admin@domain.com to admin@domain.com and it says that it sent but it never arrives in the inbox. The same happens when I send an email to my yahoo and gmail account. what is wrong?

can you send mail from one of your accounts to another within the server?

Download the Server Tools from Apple's site and use Server Admin to check the logs for the mail service just to be sure there are no problems. Additionally, Server Admin exposes more configuration options for mail... Make sure they're all correct. You may as well run the mail wizard in Server Admin and reconfigure mail. Lastly, is port 25 open on your ISP? canyouseeme.org can help you check this.

Once you get your mail working, you should send a test email to "mailtest@unlocktheinbox.com" which will auto respond if everything else is set up correctly. But it sounds like you're not at that point yet.

To see, what the world sees. But in order to help you troubleshoot further a domain name is needed. But from everything you posted it sounds like you got everything set up right, can you send mail to yourself? From your yahoo and gmail accounts?

I was in a similar situation to yourself, faffing around for ages and making little progress. Eventually I bit the bullet and paid someone. I am in Scotland and came across this really spot on mail guru based in Italy, gave him remote access and in return for money he set it up and have not looked back since. Have used him on occasion for last 8 years and has saved a lot of real hassle.
