Hello everyone,

I'm a new iMac owner. This is my first Mac ever and so
far I'm loving it - it looks great and it's a speed demon. The OS will
take some time getting used to but I already find it more intuitive.

I wanted to try using the mail program that came with the computer
(version 2.0.8). I set up the incoming and outgoing mail servers the same
way as in my Outlook Express.

When I try to send a message I get the following Error text "This message could not be delivered and it will remain in your Outbox untill it can be delivered. The sender address (my email here) was rejected by server".

I went to Window -> Connection Doctor and it indicates no problems (Connection Status:Mail was able to connect to the internet, green lights etc.) I called my provider (Rogers in Canada) and unfortunately they don't support that email program. However, they verified that everything is Ok on their end (right password, in/out servers etc.) - well I knew that since I can send email from my PC without any problems.

Any ideas what's going on? Thank you in advance.

have you checked the server connection seetings again? pop/smtp/authentication etc..?
email address/pwd correct? i think you can even "test connection" too to ensure it's all working

apart from that, i don't really know..

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Could you post a screenshot of your account configuration/preferences? You might need to verify that your server settings are correct. Are you certain you've set things like the server port number and SSL authentication correctly? These would be the first places to check, for me.

Hello,

Thanks for your responses. I think my settings for the server are OK since I get green lights for both in/out servers when I run Connection Doctor. When I get home, I'll try again. I belive I'm running 587 port. Any other suggestions our there? If I have time, I'll try posting the screenshot here. Cheers

Guys, I got it! It looks like I had to set up a password for the smtp server too even though it looked like it was optional. How good are the filters against the junk on this thing? I really like the interface and I would like to stick to it instead of getting some other email program.

Glad to hear you got it figured out. The SMTP password requirement is optional in that it's an option for your e-mail provider. Most e-mail providers these days require you to authenticate your outgoing messages to prevent outsiders (especially spammers) from sending mail via their servers.

Mail is pretty good at filtering junk mail. Check the Mail Help to see how it all works. You can set it in training mode for a while in which you can manually mark messages as spam. Over time, it will learn to recognize spam on its own and will catch the vast majority of it and divert it to your Junk folder where you can check it to make sure no important messages got inadvertently junked...doesn't happen often for me though. You can also set up manual rules to catch things.
