Just to preface, I just got my first Mac computer about 3 weeks ago (2011 MBA 11"/4/128), so while I have a good feel for things, I'm still a newbie.

I'm trying to setup Gimp for basic image editing, and I can't seem to get the tools to stay on top when in full screen. There's got to be something simple I'm missing, but I'm going mad trying to figure this out.

Try using Preview instead if you're looking for simple editing. I just learned recently that I can do all the things I usually used Gimp for, in Preview and it's much easier.

Preview is a built-in native app to the Mac.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Gimp is more suited to my needs. Is there not a way to keep the tools on top?

I don't think so. I think the way Gimp was designed and that it uses X11, that it is not possible to have the toolbar stay at the top.

Ah cool, thanks for those suggestions. I was trying to avoid it, but I just caved and installed Photoshop. :p

Just bite the $30 bullet and buy Pixelmator, better UI, snappier, superior help/resources. GIMP is the Quasimodo of applications.
