Setting up gmail account -- no SSL?

I recently changed emails from a yahoo account to a gmail account. when trying to set up the new account on my iphone (3GS running 3.0.1) it says it couldn't find or connect to SSL or something like that and gives me a message saying i won't be able to send or receive messages. What should I do to be able to properly set up the account.

I've tried it on both wi-fi and 3G

Did you check that your username and password were correct? give those a check and try again.

well i tried it again and now it works. i think i was spelling the address wrong cause it's new any not too simple. thanks
