I don't think that you have to do anything more than plug your keyboard in and open up garageband.

well i have a midi out from my keyboard,by taking a lead out of the keyboard to the audio line in the mac as opposed to just plugging in using the usb..
is there a difference in sound quality?

You just plug it into the usb. The sounds are generated from the software instruments within garageband.

You would use the 'midi out' to connect the keyboard to an external sound module of some sort. Your midi keyboard does not have any 'sounds' of it's own - it is simply a controller. When you use garageband there is a range of software generated sounds within the programme so you don't need anything else. The usb lead sends the midi signals to your mac and also provides power to the keyboard.

Yes. The best thing for you to do is to give it a go. It's really simple. Use the garagband help when you need to. Have fun.

Double-click on the recorded midi. It should then show up at the bottom of the screen in the Track Editor. You'll see a little clef note button. Just click that, and it will display the notation view.
