Hi, I some Mac experience, but not tremendous amounts. My mother 800 miles away is having problems connecting to the existing wireless router Dlink 524, which is working flawlessly with an XP laptop at full strength at the location of the new imac. The router broadcasts SSID and is using WPA-Personal (WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption). Everything standard.
With airport clearly turned on, shouldn't the network name (SSID) appear in the wifi icon's drop down list at the top of the desktop? I've also had her look in the 'network' dialog in the system preferences. The network name appears in neither place. I've even had her attempt to 'join a network' with the name, password, and security type, to no avail. But, that shouldn't be necessary anyway when a router broadcasts its network name.
This is a pretty disheartening experience needless to say. Any other troubleshooting tips?
