Me and a friend were arguing about potential displays for iphone. I want to go look at it and play it with first at the store (AT&T) but he thinks due to tight security it will be behind glass or at least it will be accessible but with limited software like no wifi or some crap. im like "no it wont you've ever been to an apple store? you can play with the macbooks and ipods (they're not even glued to the counter; just that leash thing) so even though its att i think they will be apple designed displays making it capable of fully showing off all of its features through interaction. what do you guys think?

ps i know this is such a stupid thread as we will find out in less than 48hrs (<-- CRAZY!! )

I went to my AT&T store today, and they have 3 empty iPhone docks sitting there waiting for iPhones. No glass, no nothin'. They'll totally be usable. Just with the leash thing.

If you want to go in and play with a iPhone while people are waiting in line to buy one prepare to be punched.

probably more like be prepared to wait in line. with only one or two on display, i would think that you will have to wait to be able to play with it as everyone who enters the store will want to fiddle with it.

i think there will be tons of displays. i think apple knows there will be 2 types of people there...

1.) those waiting in line to shell out their money.

2.) those who are a bit skeptical who want to try it out. AND THEN shell out their money.

i think apple stores will have lots on display, at least for the opening day.

yeah, at an apple store....but the orginal post said AT&T store.

Every time I've been to an at&t/Cingular store they have all the phones available at the store out on leashes to play around with. Why would the iPhone be any different? It's expensive? So are/were Blackberrys, Treos and a host of other "smartphones." High demand and possible theft? You need an at&t contract to use the thing, it requires some sort of activation via iTunes or at the store so why can't at&t kill any stolen phone (I'm sure they have to keep records on the SN/ID numbers for any display phones) and catch the idiot/whoever he sells the phone to when they try to activate it?

I don't see security being such a big deal other than possibly limiting people's time to play with the phone so everyone gets a chance.
