Hey,
Was wondering if anyone has this game and could give some input on its OSX version

Thanks in advance

I honestly haven't played in 3 years, but my review is here, and here is a quote:
OK … now to the Mac port and the infamous DRM.

When I first got this game it wouldn’t work. Well, it would launch, and give me a warning about needing Mac OS X 10.6.3 – which hadn’t been released yet. After that it would play, but the performance and glitches were terrible to the point that I just stopped trying until installing the OS update. At that point things worked much better, and overall I found the performance in terms of bugginess and stability to be about the same as the PC version … which really isn’t such a great compliment. I had a few crashes, but more often saw graphics glitches and textures that would blink in and out, and other graphical oddities. In terms of overall performance, the Mac version was DEFINITELY slower than the PC version, so I would call this a ‘mediocre Cider port’.

As for the DRM … it is intolerable and unacceptable. The DRM is this: you need to go through all of the normal serial number and online activation hoops, but beyond that you also need to have a constant internet connection to Ubisoft’s servers. If that connection drops – ON EITHER END – you are booted out of your game. Originally the boot-out would lose all progress from the prior checkpoint, but an update made it so the game state was saved at the moment of connection loss…which was at least a step in the right direction.

I wouldn't even bother installing it at this point personally ...

Aside from the DRM issue “txa1265” mentioned, I might add the UBISOFT servers seemed to go down more often than a two dollar wh... ah, ocean buoy.

Also. the Mac port seems to have a nasty memory leak. My late 2011 iMac has 2 Gb video ram and 16 Gb of system ram and yet that game would crash after a few hours with an “out of resources” message. What the heck?

Anyway, I haven’t played the game since early 2012 on the Mac because of the DRM and memory leak issues. I don’t know if that stuff has been fixed since then. Hope it has, as it was and still is a fun game to play otherwise.

I didn't know a Mac version of this existed. They only have the Windows version on Steam unfortunately. Maybe it is for the best if the game has stability issues though. :(

:(

Any other fun micro-managing/strategy games out there? Tropico 4 seems good, but not quite what I'm looking for.

edit: going through 'mac game store' it seems that you still need to be constantly connected to their servers.

I have not found anything to indicate that they were ever adequately fixed. Of course, the PC version wasn't stellar in that regard either ... but it was better. Not the best representative of the Settlers franchise.
