When setting up the new iMac I might possibly get, I'm going to want to set it up "from another Mac". My MacBook Pro. My MBP has a cloned drive that I update everyday.

Instead of putting my MBP into firewire target mode, can I just use my cloned firewire drive for the setup? Does it make a difference? This is more like a theoretical question, as i can probably use my MBP in firewire target mode, but was just wondering if say, I sold my MBP first, if I could use my clone as the target disk when setting up a new Mac.

Migration Assistant is the tool you should use assuming you still have your macbook pro at the time :)
