Several Questions About the Macbook

Hello, I have just recently purchased a macbook 2.16 GHz, with 120 Gb hard drive, 1GB ram and I have a few questions regarding it.

1. Is it normal for my macbook to reach temperatures of 60 - 70 degrees Celsius while watching online videos on youtube and stuff like that?

2. How long does it take to burn a DVD using iDVD? And say the videos inside the DVD were an hour long altogether.

3. When I insert a cd into the cd drive, it makes this rather loud noise when taking it in and it sounds like the drive is hitting something. I don't know exactly but yeah. Is that normal? Other than that, the drive performs well.

1. Yes, that should be about right.
2. I don't know, haven't tried that myself. Somebody?
3. Yes, it makes a noise when a disc is inserted. I imagine its fitting the disk on a spinning tray thing the same way you would put it on if it's a tray loading disk drive.
 
oooh thank you so much, i just thought my macbook was being retarded or had a defect. Also, it looks like you also use a macbook, so i was wondering, what program do you use or would recommend in burning dvds?
 
The temperature is normal, but watch it; it could burn your lap if you put it on your lap.

As for how long it takes, I have no idea as I haven't had the time to start doing this yet:(

Finally, your disc is simply loading. It does sound a little rough, but it's normal. You'll get used to it. As long as there isn't a loud "thud" type sound, you should be fine.
 
burning a dvd in idvd takes a while... it has to render everything, so if u are working on a full 4.7gb dvd you're looking at maybe 2hours(ish) thats for a full dvd, burnt and verified.

a normal dvd, like copying or something would take about 15-25mins

Haha the noise scared me a bit when i first got my macbook too :p. I haven't burned a dvd yet (just CD in iPhoto), but iDVD seems great for the job. I also use Mac The Ripper to rip dvds to my hard drive.

Edit: many people also recommend Toast for more advanced burning.

As teflon very rightly says, many would recommend Toast - it's a great bit of software, and well worth the cash if you'll be burning lots of CDs/DVDs.

There are a few other free options around - Burn is pretty good I believe and there's always OS X's Disk Utility.

Boy...that would be a dream... It takes my PowerBook G4 1.677 like 4 hours to render a full DVD.
