Hi!

I was waiting for Steam to come to Mac OS X, and what do I have now? Bunch of games that don't work at all!

I downloaded Steam and decided to buy couple of casual games (hidden object type). At first, I bought Escape Rosecliff Island it didnt work, then I bought (thinking this might be a problem of Rosecliff only) NightWatch - same result, finally I bought Valerie Porter and what do you think? Yes, I cant play it too.

The problem is that games fail to load. I see a jumping icon of a game in the dock for a second or two and then its gone. Sometimes I get a error report screen, sometimes not.

Something is really wrong with those games or Steam. I have tried to run those games on several Macs (different models) - no result. Same behaviour on every computer.

What else I have tried:

1. Reinstalling Steam;
2. Reinstalling games, defragmenting game files etc.;
3. Run the games under new user;
4. Repairing permissions;

I use the latest OS version and have every other updates installed.

I have posted a message on Steam support page, but they haven't answered yet.

Any ideas?

This is really strange.

p.s. I haven't tried to install ''heavy titles'' like half-life, cause I didn't have enough time to download them.

I had trouble launching europa universalis 3 (mac) through Steam. Turns out it's something to do with Steam and the intro movies. The game launches fine if run outside of Steam, but from inside Steam the movies folder has to be renamed to launch.

If your game has intro movies, you could try the same thing, rename the movies or the folder they're in, if they have their own folder?

I doubt you will get many answers unless you post your detailed Mac specs along with what version of OSX you are using.

Also, what type of network connection do you have such that HL2 takes too long to download. It should only take about 20 min max.

OS version: Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Configs:

1. MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, 4 Gb RAM, NVidia GeForce 8600 M GT 256 Mb

2. MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz, 2 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 9400 M 256

3. MacMini (don't remember the exact configuration).

But I don't think the problem is with config. It just can't be so. 3 different computers and all with the wrong config?

I haven't tried to run the games outside of the Steam, cause I don't want to buy them again.

Renaming folders: how exactly should I rename the folder?

Not what I meant. What I meant was navigate to the game's Steam content folder in your Documents directory and launch the game from there, instead of clicking on Play in Steam.

thx for help!

solution has been found and it's pretty simple. The problem was in my system language. Games only work if your OS language is set to english. And they do not work if it's set to russian. :D
