This was a surprise: Severance is edited on a Mini amongst other machines like MacBook Pro. It's in the "Behind the Mac" video linked in this page. They must have some large external Thunderbolt disks or now use 10Gbps networked arrays,

Editing scenes with 81 simultaneous video multicam clips, in 9 tabs of 9, is more than ‘a simple task’. Even if they’re proxies.
That’s an extremely complex database operation, and any delay would make editing a pain.
It would have been a maxed M4 Pro….

If the multicam shows only 9 clips, it means it's decoding only 9 clips, the others 72 clips are not using any CPU time.

The minimum system requirements for Avid Media Composer are 32GB RAM for 2K video, 32+GB RAM for 4K/8K.
Nine streams of 1080p proxy video equates to just over a 6K full-def stream.
The video tells that more than nine streams (of the full 81)were only loaded for "some of the time".
Media Composer's database isn't as Mac optimised as FCP's. That sort of workflow needs the underlying bandwidth...
