Hi everyone,

Since upgrading from MacOS 12 to 14, I'm intermittently getting some strange behaviour from Messages. Sometimes - and I can't find any rhyme or reason for this - one of the messages will suddenly become larger, shake around the window a bit, then shrink back down to its normal size and return to its normal position.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I have "Reduce motion" enabled in System Preferences so if this shaking is "reduced" then I shudder to think what unreduced looks like.

Google is not being helpful. Any ideas?

Sounds like someone sent you a message using the "Loud" message effect. (Or you accidentally sent one using that effect.)

In this most recent case it was one of my own messages. If it takes three distinct clicks like that article indicates then I wonder whether a bug is causing that particular effect to trigger when it shouldn't?
