You guys tend to forget, that apple is being run differently now. Tim is not micro managing.. Its each department's responsibility and work, that makes it into the products - like a normal company.
If you get another CEO, i doubt the products themselves will be any different, since this is the product of the mac department - and quite frankly, i don't think the mac would have looked much different under Steve, except it would have been released a bit earlier with less bugs, because of the way he was driving people to work 60+ hours a week.
The Mac is not going anywhere, hell, they are deeply invested in their software dev department like Final Cut Pro (which gotten a lot better), and Logic pro x, which has gotten a lot better (I use it frequently).
The computer itself as we know it, has changed though. Look at HP's newest designed laptops, only USB-C. When it comes to phones, samsung is now also removing the headphone jack. Times are changing, embrace or reject the changes to come, it won't be any different
One thing i do think is worse now, is the rate of bugs (But can't really tell if its just blown out of proportions), and low rate of mac updates (mac mini, iMac, mac pro, etc). We can only guess why, but i dont think a single man is responsible for all this, since apple is not micromanaged anymore. Apple is not a startup anymore, its a huge corp, with different department which makes decisions for themselves by their own experts.
Btw, They said themselves the mac is not going anywhere. If thats a lie, i really dont see why they spend so much R&D money on software development for the Mac - they have even made big purchases of companies for their Mac software.
I agree that they should speed up their game hardware wise, or at least keep up with their hardware upgrades, while they develop their next mac model - maybe they have just gotten too big? dunno.
If the board replace the whole management, with any other ordinary IT management, it will just become another pc manufactorer, and their apple dna will be gone for sure. Times will tell which way it will go, but as outsiders, i dont think we can guess anything, when we dont know whats going on internally.
