Hello,

I am based in the UK and have read I can 'fool' my Apple TV into thinking I am in the USA so I can have access to more channels and improved Netflix content.

I have successfully managed to share my Mac Mini's internet connection using the method detailed here; https://support.apple.com/kb/PH13855?locale=en_US

However, as soon as I enable my VPN client I am no longer able to access any content on the Apple TV (UK or otherwise). Sharing the same connection from my Mini to my Macbook results in a 'unable to connect to internet' so for some reason the internet connection is not working when going through the VPN??

When running the VPN locally on the Mac Mini, I have no problems accessing any USA based service.

For reference I'm running Yosemite and the VPN client is Cloak. Firewall is off.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Further to my original query, I have just come across this message...

Wi-Fi has the self assigned IP address xxx.xx.xxx.xx (not my usual IP address) and will not be able to connect to the internet.

Again, any help would appreciated?

Mac Mini is connected via Ethernet and I am trying to share this connection via Wi-Fi to my Apple TV.

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried it via PPTP?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

This isn't something I am familiar with to be honest. I am a novice user when it comes to VPN. I am using the standard client provided by Cloak.

Can you advise where I may need to begin?

I don't know if Cloak supports PPTP connections. Their app is likely an OpenVPN client, and I've read about issues trying to do what you want via an OpenVPN-type connection. Doesn't play nice with Mac internet sharing.

You could search their website or contact their support to see if there's a way for you to connect via PPTP.
