I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this new annoying iOS 18 bug:

Whenever I go to share media (Photos app, even a webpage) to Messages via the quick share options, after selecting an individual, the text box selection will sometimes default to the recipient box.

Historic behavior is it will default to the message box. It will do this correctly on subsequent shares in a single “session”, but the first share always goes to the recipient box. And so muscle memory begins typing a message in the recipient box.

I know I can’t be the only one experiencing this because it’s consistent on my iPhone and iPad and I know its a bug because upon re-attempt to share it will behave correctly.

So select a photo, hit “Share” icon, touch one of the suggested contacts/groups (NOT the Messages icon itself) - and the cursor stays in the Recipient field?

I am not seeing that behavior myself. If I select “Messages” (no recipient) then yes, it leaves me in the Recipient field as I’d expect. But if I pre-select a recipient, I’m in the body field. 18.0.1

Correct, as if to add another recipient to the one I just selected. Consistent behavior across two devices which “corrects itself” if I go back and perform the exact same action again, which will bring the cursor to the message box. Occurs on both 18 and 18.0.1.

I'm not sure what I've done to get there, but think I've seen this.

hit share, and go to type a message and I'm in the "to" box. which I normally don't notice till a couple words in.
Seen this recently, not sure when it started, and guessing something has changed, because it keeps surprising me when it happens.

Yes, this is a bug and if you go back and reshare the exact same way, the text selection will default to the message box as it should. I don't understand how this wasn't fixed in 18.1, it's an obvious bug.

I have the same issue and also a new one, where after sending a message the sheet with the conversation stays up for me to chat in.

I have to actively click the cancel button at the top of the chat sheet, which returns me to the share sheet to pick an option. Unsure when or how it happens exactly, but it‘s definitely a new issue as of iOS 18.0.

I haven’t experienced this but I believe you.

This release has been the most buggy I can recall and considering how obvious (and seemingly basic) many bugs have been that haven’t been solved in 18.1 I’m compelled to speak up.

Not only was it doing that, but it’s since stopped. Great, except now the keyboard is shifted up and to the left so you can type a message but the send button is blocked. It’s a super PITA. Often I’ll share a screenshot of something to my wife and then delete it after sharing. Now I have to save it to my camera roll, attach it, and then go back to delete it.
