Shared Folder that can be accessed from Windows 7 (bootcamped) and OSX?

Hi guys. Like the title says, I was wondering if a shared folder (containing my pictures/music etc ....) be accessed on both OSX and Bootcamped Windows 7? Without my having to switch to the different OS. Is it possible? If so how can this be accomplished?

This i would REALLY love to know! reason is, i have a 9gb MKV movie that i needed to transfer to a NTFS external HD the other day. Since you cannot write to NTFS ( only read ) in OSX i was stuck.

If there was a way to share a folder with OSX and Windows ( bootcamp ) that would be great! I could then have just dropped in the 9GB movie into the folder, booted into windows and transfered it to my external NTFS drive ( hard drive i use for movies along with my WD HD TV player )

Parallels 5? You could boot Windows inside of OS X and have easy access to both OSs' at the same time. It lets you move files easily between Windows and OS X and vice versa.

Also, I saw something in the boot camp setup information on Apple's site about creating a third partition (OS X, Windows NTFS, AND Windows FAT). Windows could store stuff like pictures on the FAT partition, and OS X can read and right to a FAT-formatted partition.

That might be a best option for what you are wanting to do.

That might be a best option for what you are wanting to do.

Do you have the link to this info? I prefer not using parallel as I prefer to do some gaming on bootcamp.

However, as I understand Paralells, it's not an either/or thing: you can still boot into boot camp as if Paralells is NOT installed. You would then be running a full Windows machine for your gaming.

Paralells can use your boot camp installation of Windows when you want to run both at the same time. There should be no noticable hit for stuff like sharing photos between platforms.

So, for gaming, you boot with boot camp just like you do now. For just about everything else (including sharing photos, etc), you could go through the virtual machine.

Else, that third (FAT) partition idea should work.

So you can access the boot camped windows 7 partition via parallel? I thought you had to do a separate partition for both the boot camp windows 7 and parallel windows 7 (excuse the questions, visualization isnt my strongest subject).

Yes, there are many links on this topic. Do a search for using boot camp with Parallels and you should find plenty of information. If you check various others "windows" and "paralells" threads on this site, you'll also find plenty of people doing exactly that. I don't believe Paralells creates a hardware partition. I believe it is all in some kind of file container on the OS X side. When you have it use the boot camp partition, it doesn't have to duplicate an installation of Windows again... it just uses what's already stored in boot camp.
