NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Apple Inc. hit the $200 mark for the first time Wednesday, as investor confidence in the company continued rising near the end of what has been a strong year for the iPod and computer maker.

This doesn't surprise me, not only did they release the iPhone and iPod Touch which will allow Apple to keep its market share in the media player market, gain cell phone market share, but Amazon reported the MacBook as one of the top selling items this holiday season. I can't wait to hear Apple tell us that they have gained more points in the PC market share.

And as usual tomorrow will see a big profit grabbing sell-off.

This doesn't always happen, but I would not be surprised to see a selloff right after the first of the year, and perhaps some before the end of the year. If you're going to sell appreciated stock, January is a good time because capital gains taxes on the sale won't be due for another 16 months. Fund managers like to sell appreciated shares before the ends of fiscal quarters, to lock in profits.

Anyway, I was going to wait to post this news when/if AAPL closed over $200, which the way things are going, may not be today. ;)

Such a wonderful tale of expansion and growth. I can't wait to see the highs for next year (I dare not even venture a guess, as Apple has more tricks up its sleeve I suspect). :)

It hasn't been under $200 since the very opening minutes today, and it's been around $202 almost all afternoon.

Barring some unforeseen news, this should be the day!

I think the iTunes rental rumor is really helping this along...

I think so too. The Dow 30 is just falling right now, and the NASDAQ is also taking a hit. Apple seems to be one of the few gainers today. :)

Yeah, but it was holding up so well all day (probably on the rental news) and then it gave us its impression of a sack of potatoes at 3:30!

It's green today, too, against the market.

The markets took a tumble late in the day. More bad economic news, and the Bhutto assassination seemed to spook traders.
