Hi:

I have decided on a media server, a DLink NAS, for use in my home. I plan on putting all my media on it, and accessing it from multiple computers- both Mac (iMacs) and PCs (towers and Laptops).

I am a bit screwy when it comes to my music. I ripped all my music lossless, either WAV or Apple Lossless. I have downgraded select music for use on both my iPhones to 128 acc, so some of my music "doubles up." Same essentially for my videos- I have ripped 100 or so DVDs (mainly children's stuff for my daughter), and made second copies with Handbreak so it will play on my iPhone.

So I am trying to decide how best to set this up. I want the "full size" stuff to show up on my media center (wav/lossless), and the the low-res stuff to be available on the iMacs (which are what I sync iPhones to).

Should I have two separate iTunes directories on the NAS, like "iTunes" and "iTunes Lite"?

Is there any way I can create my playlists on one computer, and copy those playlists to other computers? (I have spent a lot of time working on my lists, and I hate redoing them on every install!). Is there a way I can keep my current playlists on the Media Center, and keep that when I move over to the NAS? (Music is currently on an external off the Media Center).

Any other advice for this move to an NAS?

Thanks!

Dave
