I just purchased a WD My Book 1TB External HDD and i have it connected to my iMac through the USB cable. Im using it to backup my iMac onto with time machine but i was wondering if there is a way i can share it with my MacBook without having to unplug it from my iMac and plug it into my MacBook? I want to beable to use Time Machine on my MacBook to backup onto the external HDD thats connect to my iMac. Is this possible?

You can do it through terminal, however I found that 'Sharepoints' is a easy to use solution:

http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/

or....

On the iMac, go to System Preferences>Sharing and turn on Personal File Sharing. From your laptop, go through the finder to Network, and select your iMac, which should appear there. When you connect, instead of Guest, sign in as a registered user (I think, but am not sure, that the user account you use here should be an admin account). Enter your password, and you'll get a list of volumes to which you can connect, one of which will be your external drive.

found this info on this thread

hope it helps

Sharepoint quits on me everytime i add a new user and if i use file share i can get it to work but it will take like 2 days to backup 80gb. I hooked my external drive directly to my macbook and backed it up and then tried to backup using the files share way and it doenst recognize the backup i just made and tries to backup all 80gb again. Anyone have any info to help me? I think im just going to buy an airport extreme since that should make it easier.
