Sharing verizon broadband connection

I have a verizon mobile broadband card that I use on my Macbook Pro. I know how to set it up to share the wireless connection through Airport, but I was wondering how to set that up so it's password protected so no one else can hop on it.
I guess this is more of a "general" Mac question, but since it's specifically for using on my iPad, I thought it would be alright here.
