Sharp edge

Hey all,

Just bought my macbook CD ..

The edge of the computer on this thing is super sharp - i.e. it hurts my wrists after only minutes.

Any ideas on how to fix this without super ugliness? All I can think of is a thin strip of electrical tape - but that would be unsightly!

Also -- did apple fix this issue on the C2D macbook?

yes, the sharp edge is the first thing I notice when I demo the MB at the local stores here, when I get mine I'll have to start wearing wristgaurds

All you have to do is adjust your wrist position so the edges aren't digging in - it's really not that hard to find a comfortable position.

Personally, I haven't had a problem with the edge. (Though it certainly is sharp.)

This is by far my biggest complaint of the MB. With all of Apple's famous designs, and beloved 'feel-good interaction' between product and person, it really strikes me as a large mistake that they have done with this part of the MB. Just a simple curve, nothing radical, would have been sufficient. The Toshiba Satellite, for example, has a very sweet curve to the front. Yes, yea, yea, whatever... I aced typing in HS [umpteen years ago... ], and know all about proper posture and all that - no matter, when I'm sloughing about on the couch, plane, recliner, penthouse suite, whatever, the wrists will make contact w/ that - and it should not be. I am threatening to take a belt grinder to mine... MAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!

I know a lot of people find it uncomfortable, but I honestly haven't had a problem with it.

Obviously, to keep the slim design it wouldn't have been possible to round it much, though a slight rounding would certainly be possible.

I have a MacBook and only noticed the edges were sharp from all the reports. A few years back I developed carpal tunnel syndrome from poor keyboard ergonomic posture and wrist positioning. I've since learned not to lay my wrists on the palm rests in such a fashion that my wrists place any weight on the front edge of the notebook. If you can feel the edge cutting into your wrists when you type on your MacBook you should probably adjust your typing posture so as to not place any weight on the front edge of the notebook.

I was just coming on to ask about this. I too have noticed they are seriously uncomfortable. I always use mine on either the iCurve or iLap stands and they are a problem.

I am going to call Apple tomorrow and complain about it. If I hadnt bought a black, I would simply take a file to the edge and put a slight bevel to it.

ya... in fact my cheapass solution worked really well..

Electric tape... For those of you with a blackbook, the tape is even cheaper...

Also, I figured it would be super ugly.. but.. it's not..

If you actually went round the entire countour, it could look like part of the design..

Just took a 5mm (or so) wide piece of white electric tape and went from end to end (with space out for the trackpad) .. way cheaper (and nicer IMHO) than the $30 microfibre.

BTW, went to the apple store, and they recommended their $25 product that didn't even reach the edge (nor was it possible to shift it down)

For the thin poster -- rounding the edge (or just making the keyboard inlay flush with the edge) would have meant this problem didn't exist -- and in no way would have affected the thickness of the case.


I mean really --- when you're taking $5 tape to improve design on an apple product, that's a little whack.


For the ergonomics person - thanks, appreciate the good wishes -- I'm working on better posture every day. (Sitting on the floor working on a coffee table means that my wrists are below the keyboard)

Talked with Apple on the phone and they sent me into the Apple store. Talked pretty extensively with the mac tech there. He sold me a marware pad that works a little.

Last night at work I ran a deburr tool around the edge and fixed it. I would take pics, but it is so subtle it probably wouldnt show up.
