I just bought an iPhone 3GS recently. Everytime when I connect it to computer or a wall charger, it starts charging AND MAKES A SHARP SOUND. It's really annoying. I couldn't find any option to change or disable it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That noise is fairly annoying. And even if you have the ringer off it still goes!

I just turned off "Lock Sounds" under the sounds settings and it didn't make a noise.

What do you mean by "sharp sound"? Sounds can't be sharp. Is it a high pitch squeal? Is it coming from the speakers or from someplace else? I now my old ipod 5G makes a buzzing noise while charging and is just the sound of some of the components when electricity flows through them. Need more info to know for sure.

It's a tone made by apple on purpose to tell the user that it is charging. I wouldn't call it sharp, but it's a weird mechanical noise.

Great! I would try that. It's a really weird sound.

Turned out my "Lock Sounds" has always been off... That sound just don't go away.

Really? that's bothersome. does the sound come from the speaker?

Yes it's from the speaker. I just flipped the silent switch and plugged it in, as Ntombi suggested. This time it vibrated instead. That's much better! Thanks guys for your suggestions!

Hi swb1192, I just tried your suggestion I my iPhone was silent. Thank you very much. Why does apple trying to tell us its charging ? Don't we know that, when we ourselves put it to charge.

I just upgraded from a 1st gen to the 3GS. I've also noticed the high pitched sound!!

It happens after I press the standby button on top of the phone.
Also, when I use one of the apps (tap tap 2). The app has sound effects after each screen you go through. Once that sound effect sound stops, the high pitched sound comes on for a few seconds. It's really annoying!!!

I am going to apple tomorrow to see why.
I've heard that the white ones-which is what I have-might get recalled for overheating? I guess it turns the back of the phone brown :(

also, if I record a memo and play it through the speakers...it makes that high pitched ringing sound.
ugh, not good.
