To anyone who it might help........it is understood that the glass screen and display unit are glued (thanks apple) from 2013 onwards...this is true.
But you can change the screen and I am living proof...not for $900 plus due to the cost of a new display unit.... I used a screen from my 2011 imac 27 inch and yep if you look closely it hangs over a bees inch at the top which I have taped...but its beautiful and it works perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not impossible by a long shot to take the screen off!!!!

I'm in nsw and my imac is in vic right now...nxt week can post picture/s.

I dont get it.. how would you even power the backlight, or even the LVDS to the logicboard? Theres no way they are compatible at all.
I might have some logical explanation for the backlight, but not the LCD panel. I cant see a fat iMac lcd being compatible with any slim iMac, especially with the retinas..

I don't have a technical clue....I did not do it myself. The glass I used was from this model imac:
mac 27 inch
3.4GHZ i7
8GB
1TB
AMD 2G/NK
product code XMC814/A-34-2
model no: A1312
serial no: CO2HKOE4DHJW
EMC No 2429
invoiced 1/5/2012

My computer worked with a shattered screen (turned off to repair) and I risked putting on the glass from the computer mentioned above. It is proud at the top. My computer works. I'll get more info.

That serial number isn't valid on https://checkcoverage.apple.com

And it still doesn't explain how you would even connect the LCD to the 2017 logic board
LCD to the 2017 logic board?????????????
I changed the GLASS not the LCD display unit.............the metal tabs were sheared off to fit...again...it sits proud at the top.....my lcd display whatever was not in any way damaged ...my computer worked.
If the lcd panel were to have become damaged in the process I would have had to replace the lcd panel with glued glass attached $900.....I had nothing to lose.
I have no technical computer knowledge like the people on mac-forums...but it is where I started to search for help.....that's the ONLY REASON I POSTED MY INITIAL POST....WAS BECAUSE EVERYWHERE I LOOKED IT WAS CLEARLY STATED THAT IT COULD NOT BE DONE.
And I was devastated!!
The double sided tape is a walk in the park for people with your level of knowledge and experience....the glue is the problem and the screen needed to be heated with infa red?????? or somthinge like that to help release the glue.
As for the serial no of the old computer glass I used....it's legit...bought from a shop....maybe I made a typo but really it's not the point....it's glass from a 27inch imac 20011 I think.

To add speculation and a possible explanation, I believe what OP means is the front glass, not the LCD panel.
thankyou

So I was somewhat overjoyed when it worked and just wanted to post what happened....no technical computer knowledge...so the correct answer is NO...I just changed the glass.

How was the glass changed since it's glued to the display? I didn't know that was possible?
The glass taken from the 2011 27inch was held with double sided tape.....you can buy them second hand anywhere.
Yes the display and glass are seriously GLUED from 2013 models onwards.....so there is the problem.....removing the glass WITHOUT DAMAGING THE LCD PANEL.

THE PERSON WHO DID IT WAS AT THE TIME MAKING A FAN TO COOL THEIR MAC MINI....THEY HAD ALL THE STUFF AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO ATTEMPT TO DO THE JOB.....AND LIKE I SAID THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO LOSE ALBEIT EXTRA LABOUR IF I ENDED UP NEEING A NEW LCD DISPLAY AND GLASS. AND I WAS AWARE AND WARNED....ONE SLIGHT MISTAKE COULD HAVE EASILY DAMAGED THE LCD PANEL.
