Where the Air Force sends me
My wife is on the edge of ordering the iPad for me as a bday gift. But she asked me what I would use it for considering I own a iMac, MacBook Pro, and 32GB iPhone...

All I could tell her was to surf the internet while at the fire dept, watch some movies (hopefully HULU), email, and occasionally school work. I love the virtual keyboard so I have no problems with using it for long periods of time.

I really don't know why I want it or what to tell her other than it's my iphone with a HUGE screen which is AWESOME!!!!

Has anyone out there convinced there wife with any particular feature???

There's no way I could possibly have convinced my husband, so I got rid of him. Not in any way suggesting that as an option, however. :)

Bwahahahahaha......

I'm 15 months into a nasty divorce. I don't have to convince any longer, i just do if i have the money.

Since i'm celebrating my SECOND anniversary since filing - i'm buying myself a 3G with some tax refund money. Hey, after 18 years of wedded..... something, i deserve an anniversary gift for a change! LOL!!!

So wait you have to justify your birthday gift? Dang. That's cold. Now if you were just going out to buy one I understand the 20 questions, but your birthday gift is suppose to be a "free pass."

Just tell her it's your iPhone with HUGE screen which is AWESOME and also since you are getting older need a HUGE screen so when you are looking to buy her birthday gift you can make sure you are buying her nice jewelry and not a vacuum cleaner. :D

Man. My husband's birthday is this weekend. I tried to talk him into letting me buy him one for his birthday. He's just not that into the concept, says he'll check out mine and then decide if he wants one.

I'm jealous of the OP's wife because at least she know there's something he wants. Mine is very very hard to buy for.

How about - I just want one because I think it's cool... I mean, it's the same reason people buy art, designer clothes, or fancy furniture. What's the big deal about it? It doesn't have to be 100% practical just because it's a piece of technology.

$499 bday present isn't a pass as an E-3 in the military lol

She's currently taking online classes and owns a MBP and 16GB 3GS. Initially she was going to sell her MBP and we would use that $$$ for the iPad. I can't let her do that tho, as much as I love the iPad its not a MBP.

So she's a student, that watches MTV... other than that she wont use this thing much.

I guess I could sell the picture frame and ebook reader to her, she loves to read. :D

Any other suggestions?

Some people need it. Some people don't. Some people spend their spare change on yachts. Some don't. It's not always about needs. Women get gold and diamonds as gifts. Who needs them? I have no answers. Carry on.

Tell her it will help you understand what you've done wrong.

I'll tell her it's a great ebook reader and picture frame and then remind her I paid more than $500 for her diamond earings... Which in my opinion is a waste... SOLD thanks for the help everyone.

oh yea, it vibrates.

I can't really help you justify it... but i can say in all seriousness....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

and

THANK YOU for your service. You have no clue how much that means to me.

(from a new card carrying CAP Senior member going to use her iPad to wow her Cadets!)

my wife loves to play my games on my iphone since she doesnt have one....i went that route in telling her she could play them anytime she wants now. Not to mention the kiddo will love it and I will have plenty of educational apps as well.

I was joking before but seriously, if money is an issue then why even consider the iPad? It's more of a luxury toy at this point. Personally I wouldn't trade my MBP for it since the latter is a real tool, even though I figure my iPad will do some pinch hitting now and then. Selling a MBP to buy an iPad is like trading a steak for a bag of candy.

Wait a minute now, have I missed something? Does it actually vibrate? I haven't heard anything about it vibrating, huh. What a great feature.

It doesn't have to be a necessity to buy it. Just ask her about the necessity of spending money on her nails or getting her hair done. How many purses or shoes does she have that she doesn't use? We all get junk we don't absolutely need. If you can afford it, no big deal.

My wife uses her iPhone on the crapper, I told her imagine how much better experience it would be with an iPad, so she let me order it!
