Hi all. I have searched a lot for this but not come up with the answer I need. I have jailbroken my iPhone 3g today and so far so good. The main reason for doing this is so I can add my own custom SMS tone.

I have installed OpenSSH and SBSettings, I have also renamed my text alert sound as required and saved as a .caf file. I am using a MacBook Pro.

My question is how do I transfer this file to my iPhone running 3.0?

Thanks in advance.

Cyberduck - open an SFTP connection and you have full file access. Then navigate to /System/Library/Audio/UI Sounds and drop it in there. Make sure the file name is EXACT to the one thats already there. It will not rename the file in your iphone, so remember which number you picked to replace.

Thank you very much for the reply. I will try this as soon as I get home :D

Don't waste your time with dumb programs like that, all you need is ssh.

I have OpenSSH installed on my iPhone 3g and the SMS tone saved and ready to go on my Mac. My question is how do I transfer it from my Mac to my iPhone? Looks like cyberduck is the answer?

Yes. Cyberduck is great. Go to this directory /System/Library/Audio/UI Sounds and look for the sms sound files, and name your custom file one of those 5 files names, and just replace it. I would back up the original sms sound first on your computer, just in case. Then respring, and you should be all set. :)

Excellent, thank you. One last question, is it best to delete the tone file from the iPhone then copy my custom one in, or just overwrite it? Or does it not make a difference? Thanks again for the help.

Don't need to delete, Cyberduck will overwrite.

As suggested, make copies of the originals in case you decide to change it back.

I recall there are 6 different SMS tones.
